Between 1750 and 1825, the workers of the workshop in modern Catalonia make up a group that is numerically important and strategically fundamental for the expansion of maritime trade. Although their "natural" field of work is the mainland and their production system retains a strong medieval imprint, there are spaces where these regulations adapt to more flexible circumstances and contemplate trajectories similar to other groups whose evolution is marked by the rhythm of the processes of proletarianization that they experience, as is the case of the embarked personnel. This work has made it possible to study how these two work formulas coexist, what impact they have on the activity and what place the on-board maintenance workers occupy in the crews. Likewise, it tries to assess whether this work represented a complementary activity whose remuneration was necessary for subsistence. Finally, the evolution of this group is examined in comparison with that of other crew members to establish whether they share a common path or, on the contrary, the specificities of their trade determine a divergent evolution.
